A physical drive calls for an experience it cannot yet name; a voice puts into words the way forward for a group that hesitates. On the Design side, a present detail awakens a past situation; a mind goes back over each idea until it reshapes it.

A memory and a mind without a motor

Two of the cross’s centers supply no energy: the Spleen Center, where Gate 44, Alertness, links a present detail to a past situation, and the Ajna, where Gate 24, Rationalization, goes back over an idea until it transforms it.

The drive comes from the Root, home to Gate 41, Contraction; speech comes from the Throat, through Gate 31, Leading.

The Left Angle of this cross points to transpersonal karma.

The soil survey that looked too good

Josselin is a technician at an engineering firm that designs retaining walls. For a wall above a county road, a subcontractor hands in a soil survey that is clean and cheap. Josselin stumbles over one line, a very short lead time, the same one promised by the company that had abandoned a site halfway six years earlier. He flags it to his boss with no other argument; the boss asks for a second quote.

That same winter, a restlessness with no object holds him for weeks. He answers the first listing he comes across, a drone piloting course over three weekends, and drops it on the second: nothing he was doing there called to him.

A drive that keeps its memories

Heading into the unknown without repeating past mistakes becomes possible. The 41 carries the body toward a new experience; the 44 spots, in the new situation, the detail that signals a precedent, good or bad.

The 24 works over what the new experience brings until it finds a form for it, at its own pace, without following the impatience of the 41. The 31, which holds the Personality Earth, puts that form to the group that asks for it, in few words.

A new experience does not erase what has been learned: the memory of the 44 travels with the person.

A precedent that closes the door

The 44 can rule out an experience in the name of a memory that resembles the situation only on the surface. The drive of the 41 then runs into a refusal born of an old fear. The Spleen Center, tied to survival fears, keeps such fears in reserve.

To relieve the tension of the 41, the first offer that comes along will do. An open Root amplifies the pressure from others even more, and a commitment of several months gets made before the authority has had its say.

For you, for others

For you

Accept the experience your authority holds on to, even an unknown one, and take your memory along with you; a detail that makes you pull back at once deserves a check on whether it really resembles the past.

For others

Behind the unexplained refusal of a colleague with this cross, there may be a memory: ask him which one. Then give him time to come back to you before demanding a plan. His answer will fit in a few words.

Frequently asked questions about the Left Angle Cross of the Alpha

Does a restlessness with no object signal a life change?

Not necessarily. The 41 builds up pressure before it has found something to experience; it can land on a three-weekend course as easily as on a move. What it is worth is judged by the object it finds and by what the authority says about it, not by its strength.

What place does the mind have in such a physical cross?

A slow one. The 24, in the Ajna, provides a form without providing the drive; it works for a long time on the questions experience brings, without having to keep pace with the 41.

Can you suggest a direction in a field you are just discovering?

Yes, when the question has had time to come back around and someone asks for it. Neither mastery of the craft nor its vocabulary is needed for the 31 to suggest an organization worked out by the 24.

With Gate 30 in the chart, what becomes of the drive?

With Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, the Channel of Recognition forms, between the Root and the Solar Plexus. The drive then joins a desire, one aimed at experiences more than objects: the urge gains a goal without losing its impatience.
