The Spleen Center responds to the moment without looking back. Gate 44 brings memory into it: its signal arrives as fast as the center’s other alerts, but it recognizes something, a precedent that ended badly or turned out well.

A team that includes someone with Gate 44 avoids making the same mistake twice. A supplier, a file, a way of making promises that has already proved costly are recognized before they cost again.
The same association serves what has worked. A way of announcing bad news that was well received can be used again: Gate 44 sees when a new situation lends itself to it.
