Before it has an object, desire exists as a pressure in the body looking for a new experience. A voice that speaks only when asked answers it; a memory that recognizes precedents goes along with it without holding it back.
A memory, a mind, no channel between them
Gate 44, Alertness, and Gate 24, Rationalization, both on the Design side, do not form a channel together. The harmonic gate of the 44 is Gate 26, the Egoist, in the Heart; that of the 24 is Gate 61, Mystery, in the Head. One recognizes in the moment, the other comes back to a question for weeks; nothing in the cross brings them into tune. The cross is classed as a Juxtaposition: a fixed fate, according to Human Design.
Eleven villages and a story hour
Every week, the Poitiers bookmobile makes the rounds of eleven villages. Laetitia has been driving it for three years. She had asked for the job herself, one fall when a nameless restlessness had her wandering the library’s aisles; the internal posting was the only thing that seemed to answer it.
In one village, the town hall offers the council room for a story hour. The place reminds her of a reading she gave ten years earlier in a similar room, where the children had come with their grandparents. She asks that the seniors’ club be told as well; the room is full.
Coming back with something to offer
What no plan would have chosen becomes possible with the 41, without cutting the person off from their past. The 44 picks out, in what is happening, whatever resembles an old situation, successful or failed, and draws a precaution or an idea from it.
The 24 works over the experience until it finds a form for it; Gate 31, Leading, from the Personality Earth, offers it to those who ask for it. The person comes back from their experiences with something to offer, provided someone asks for it.
The step not taken
The tension of the 41 can spin idly for months, for lack of an accepted opportunity, or throw itself at the first one that comes along just to be done with it.
The 31 can also wait too long to be asked: back from an experience, the person keeps to themselves what they brought back from it, and the proposal that would have come out of it never sees the light of day.
When the Spleen Center is open, the worries of the people around also pass through the 44. A winter tour can be dropped because colleagues were afraid of snow, without the person having recognized anything themselves.

In the Root: a physical pressure that rises before it has an object. What gives it a target comes from outside, an offer, a listing, an opportunity passing by.
Does the 44 need the 26 to give a warning?
It warns on its own: its signal comes from the Spleen Center. With the 26 elsewhere in the chart, the Channel of Surrender adds a will ready to defend what it has recognized.
Does the 31 also direct the experiences of the 41?
No. The 31 speaks for a group that has called on it; it does not steer the drive of the 41, which finds its object in the opportunities that pass by.
Can a brand-new experience recall a precedent?
Through a detail, yes: a room, a way of presenting things, a promised deadline. The 44 links that detail to a past situation; faced with a situation without precedent, it has less to hold on to, and the drive of the 41 moves ahead there alone.
