The body reaches toward a new experience before knowing which one. Speech, for its part, waits until a group is looking for its way before offering one; in between, instinct and the gut sort out what the pressure would accept too quickly.

From the Root to the Throat, no direct route

Gate 41, Contraction, sits in the Root, a motor whose pressure runs through the body. No channel links this center directly to the Throat, home to Gate 31, Leading: between the drive and speech, the cross draws no path of its own. The harmonic gate of the 41 is Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, in the Solar Plexus. That of the 31 is Gate 7, Role of the Self, in the G Center. The cross touches neither of these two centers.

Whatever defines the Root or the Throat is therefore decided in the rest of the chart. A person can have this cross with both centers open: the pressure then comes from the people around them, and so does the urge to speak.

A boxing gym on the way home

In the accounting department of a mutual insurance company in Clermont-Ferrand, Jasmine has been closing the month-end books for nine years. One spring, a restlessness with no object takes hold of her; she rearranges her shelves three times. One evening, on her way home, she stops in front of a boxing gym whose door opens onto the street, watches the training for a long while, then goes in to ask about the schedule. She has never done a combat sport; she signs up the next day.

After four months, the club asks her to be its treasurer. She replies that she already does accounting all day and that she comes here for something else. That same winter, though, every Saturday she walks home a sixteen-year-old beginner whom nobody accompanies after training, because the urge to do it came to her the very first time.

At the office, when management announces a software change, Jasmine says nothing: nobody has asked her anything. Three weeks later, the department head comes to find her; Jasmine suggests an order for migrating the accounts, month by month.

Setting off, then showing the way

An experience that no reasoning would have chosen becomes possible: the 41 sets the body in motion before reflection has weighed anything. From the Personality Earth, the 31 knows how to put a direction into words when a group asks for one, even in a setting it is just discovering.

On the Design side, Gate 28, the Game Player, lets through the games worth playing; Gate 27, Caring, offers concrete care to whoever asks, on a yes from the gut. Both sort, through the body, what the pressure of the 41 would accept too quickly.

The first way out

Pressure without an object throws itself at whatever comes along. On an impatient Tuesday, three volunteer listings get a reply in the same evening; none of them really fits, and each one eases the tension for an hour.

Without definition, the Root amplifies the pressure around it. In a department where everyone talks about quitting, the urge to leave it all can rise without belonging to the person.

The same haste shows up on the side of Gate 31. Offered just to end the waiting, before the group has asked for it, the direction finds no one to take it up.

The person wrongly concludes that their words carry no weight; it was the timing that was missing, not the words.

For you, for others

For you

Between the urge to leave and the decision, let a night go by: an opportunity that still holds the next day deserves to be settled by your authority.

For others

A friend with this cross gets bored with an open question; offer her a specific experience instead, with a date. And if your team is stuck, ask for her opinion: she will give it in one sentence.

Frequently asked questions about the Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected

Does a cross so turned toward the unknown leave room for others?

Yes. A personal destiny, the meaning given to the Right Angle, pushes no one away: in this cross, the 31 speaks to a group that calls on it, and the 27 helps whoever asks.

Does the 41 push you to run away?

It pushes toward an unknown experience, which is not a rejection of what is already there. The drive turns into flight when any way out will do, as long as it relieves the tension.

How can you tell the instinct of the Game Player from the impatience of the 41?

By how long it lasts. The Game Player’s yes or pulling back is brief and comes at the moment the game presents itself. The impatience of the 41 settles in, changes its object, and ends up making do with the first thing that comes along.

Does a new experience have to be far away?

Unknown, not necessarily far away. The 41 pushes toward an experience the person has never had; a gym whose door opens onto the way home can offer one just as much as a move abroad.
