A badly framed question arrives, tangled and loaded with irritation; it leaves as a short answer, clear enough for a third party to repeat it without error. Behind this shaping stands an understanding that sometimes arrives all at once and then looks for its words.
A channel entirely on the Design side
As Design Sun and Design Earth, the 23 and the 43 form the Channel of Structuring on their own, from the Ajna to the Throat. Gate 4, Formulization, therefore sits in an Ajna defined by gates other than its own: its way of building an answer stays the same from one person to the next.
If the chart had only this channel, it would belong to a Projector, with Mental Authority. The 49, in the Solar Plexus, stays outside this channel; defining that center takes a channel that does not come from the cross.
The resident’s letter
A three-page letter arrives at the town hall of a village in hedgerow country. A resident complains about the lane, the hedges, the noise of tractors, and ends with a question nobody can find.
Maëlle, the town hall secretary, reads it twice, then calls him to ask whether he wants to know who maintains the ditch in front of his house. He says that is exactly it. Her answer fits in two sentences: the ditch belongs to the municipality, the municipal worker comes by in October. The mayor repeats it word for word when another resident asks the same question at the council meeting.
Answers that travel without their author
Around someone with this cross, questions end up with an answer that anyone can pick up, correct, pass further along.
The 4 gives it that form. The 49, at the Earth, adds a few rules that those close to the person know and can name.
The Design supplies the new material: the 43 sees a solution without going through the steps, the 23 looks for words someone else can follow.
An insight that would have stayed private thus joins the answers that the people around pass on to one another.
An answer nobody asked for
A well-turned answer reassures, and that is its trap: the 4 provides the form, not the proof. A neat formula can circulate for a long time before someone notices it was wrong.
The 49 depends on the moods of the Solar Plexus. A rule proposed in a moment of irritation carries that irritation, even when it is put into impeccable words; once this center is defined, the decision is made after the mood has subsided.
Misread, the Right Angle, understood as a personal destiny centered on the person themselves, serves as an excuse to keep one’s answers to oneself. The 4 exists precisely to make a thought transmissible.
For you, for others
For you
Hold back the answer you already have in mind until the question has been asked: formulated for someone who asked for it, it will be picked up, whereas offered to the room at large it will stay on the table.
For others
Ask your whole question to a colleague with this cross, even if it comes out jumbled. And if one of her ideas seems to have fallen from the sky, ask her for an example before judging it.
Frequently asked questions about the Right Angle Cross of Explanation
Do the 4 and the 43 think in the same way?
They share the Ajna, not the method. The 4 starts from a question and gives it a well-formed answer; the 43 receives a whole solution, without the steps. The person has both and can confuse them: an insight from the 43 does not yet have the form the 4 knows how to give it.
Does Gate 4 need the 63 in this version?
Not for its Ajna to be defined: the Design’s 23-43 takes care of that. The 63, Doubt, would add the Channel of Logic, and every answer would then go through the questions of the Head before coming out.
How do the four Crosses of Explanation differ?
Their Personality Sun gate sets them apart. Here, it is the 4: the cross is recognized first by the way answers are shaped, whereas the versions of the 23, the 43 and the 49 start from speech, the flash of insight or the rule.
Can an idea that arrived without its steps be presented as it is?
Better to give it time to find its words. The 43 delivers the solution without the path; the 23 then looks for how to say it, and the 4 draws from it an answer others can follow. Delivered too early, the idea comes across as an unfounded assertion.
