A solution appears all at once, without the path that leads to it. The person who saw it then has to rebuild the steps for others, and sometimes for themselves, before anyone agrees to follow.

A mind that skips the steps

As long as Gate 23, Assimilation, is missing from the chart, the flash of Gate 43 has no ready-made path to words: the solution is seen, whole; nothing yet carries it through to speech. Gate 23 belongs to the Throat. Joined with it, Gate 43 completes the Channel of Structuring: this 23-43 opens a direct passage from what has been seen to the center of expression.

In the Ajna, which gives form to what the Head sends it, each gate has its own way of reaching a conclusion. Where Gate 17, Opinion, builds its view piece by piece, Gate 43, Insight, receives the answer before the reasoning. What it knows comes in one piece, without showing the way it came; the path is reconstructed later, for oneself as well as for others. The name refers to this sight that cuts through a problem at a single glance.

The Ajna can also be defined from above, without Gate 23, by 24-61, which connects it to the Head. Gate 43 then occupies a defined center without forming a channel: its flashes happen there as anywhere else, with the same work still needed to translate them.

The answer without the work

In fifth grade, Mehdi writes down the answer to a math problem without showing his work. The teacher asks him to show his reasoning; he cannot see any. He is suspected of copying from the girl next to him.

Thirty years later, now an architect, he realizes on walking into a house to be renovated that moving the staircase would free up the whole floor plan. He spends the evening drawing the steps backward, one by one, so that the client can follow what he saw in three seconds.

She stops him at the second sketch: “Just show me the new living room.” The conclusion was enough for her. She was the one who had asked the question: she was ready to hear the answer.

The shortcut no one had seen

Faced with a sticking point that has a whole team stumped, the way out can suddenly appear to the person with Gate 43, before they have gone all the way around the problem, without one more meeting or comparison table.

When Gate 23 is present, what has been seen finds the words that make it possible to pass on.

Between certainty and suspicion

A conclusion delivered without its steps quickly comes across as arrogance. The one who saw it grows impatient that the others don’t follow; they dig in against a certainty no one explains to them.

In an open Ajna, Gate 43 doubts what it has seen. According to the system, this open center takes on the reasoning style of the people present: next to a self-assured colleague, yesterday’s flash suddenly seems naive, and the person falls in with the view of whoever is most convinced.

The flash can also pass itself off as a yes. In front of a retail space up for lease, it shows all at once everything that could be done with it; a Generator with this gate then signs without waiting for the sound of their gut. Seeing what could be done and wanting to do it are two different things; only the second comes from the Sacral.

For you, for others

For you

Start with the conclusion when you are asked for it, then add the two or three steps the other person is missing, without retracing the whole path. The rest can stay with you.

For others

Ask this person what put them onto it instead of demanding a full demonstration, then give them time to find the steps again.

Frequently asked questions about Gate 43: Insight

Can you learn to explain what Gate 43 sees?

Yes. It is a separate piece of work: the knowing arrives whole, and the steps are rebuilt afterward, starting from what the other person already knows.

Can a certainty from Gate 43 be wrong?

Yes. Human Design treats what the Ajna produces as points of view, to be weighed against those of others. Arriving all at once does not make an idea any more reliable.

Do you need Gate 23 to make yourself understood?

No. With Gate 23, the knowing of Gate 43 has a direct path to the Throat and to speech. Without it, the person finds their words like everyone else, as conversations go along.

Why does such direct knowing belong to the mind?

Because the Ajna is the center where thoughts take form, whereas the Head only raises questions. Gate 43 delivers an answer that is already formed, which places it on the side of the Ajna.
