Frequently asked questions about the Red Serpent
Why is the Serpent often misunderstood by those who love it?
Because it cuts off without warning. A Serpent that has decided something is wrong doesn’t always explain and doesn’t negotiate: it cuts off. From the outside, this looks like coldness or impulsiveness. From the inside, it is a very precise bodily reading: something has changed, it felt it before thinking it, and it acted. The problem is that this reading is sometimes accurate, and sometimes tinged with fear.
How does the Serpent handle its commitments?
It commits completely or not at all, with no half measures. What complicates things is that betrayal, real or feared, can flip a total commitment into a total break, with no step in between. The people around it don’t understand the shift. The Serpent, for its part, experienced it as obvious: its body made the call before its mind signed off.
What does the Serpent need to learn once and for all?
That vigilance and distrust are not the same thing. Its body picks things up accurately, and its signals are often reliable. But when the fear of betrayal takes over, it starts seeing danger where there is none. At that point, it is no longer protecting itself: it is depriving itself. And it has nothing to gain from that.
What does an exhausted Serpent look like?
Excessive control, over everything: food, schedules, relationships. When its vital energy is depleted, the Serpent compensates with structure. It looks like discipline; it is organized anxiety. The raw vitality that defines it has disappeared, replaced by a rigor that keeps things at a distance instead of moving through them.
