A piece of work no one in the workshop had yet attempted is worth a promotion. Once opened, the job finds the working energy that carries it through to its last piece; instinct rules out from the start the order that would put the workshop in danger.

Two channels and a fixed fate

A fixed fate: that is the meaning given to the Juxtaposition. This cross shares its name with Gate 54, Ambition, which occupies its Personality Sun.

Its two pairs of gates each form a channel: the Channel of Maturation joins Gate 53, Beginnings, to Gate 42, Growth; the Channel of Transformation joins the 54 to Gate 32, Continuity. Three centers are therefore defined in every chart that contains the cross.

On their own, these two channels would draw the chart of a Generator, whose decisions would go through the Sacral. If the 16-48, called the Channel of the Wavelength, were added between the Spleen Center and the Throat, the pressure of the Root would reach the Throat through this relay: the chart would then be that of a Manifesting Generator, with the same authority.

The tower staircase

An oak spiral staircase for the tower of an old house: the order reaches the workshop in November. No one on the team has ever made one. Siméon, a journeyman joiner, draws the full-size layout on the workshop floor in the very first week.

He carries the job through until May, step after step, without his interest flagging, and installs the last one himself. In June, he asks the boss to put him in charge of the apprentice arriving in the fall.

A skill as a step up

A new skill counts here as a step up, just as a position does. Each piece of work more demanding than the last moves the person up a notch; the 54 supplies the drive without calling for an audience.

The work opens through the 53, which occupies the Personality Earth; the 42, on the Design side, sees it through to its last element as long as the gut has said yes.

The 32 sorts in the moment which jobs to take. A sound order gets through; another that would put the workshop in danger is set aside without lengthy debate, even when it is flattering.

The defined Sacral gives this climb a reserve that renews itself from one job to the next, provided each one received a real response.

The job that would get people talking

The 54 can make the person aim for the spectacular job instead of the next one. A monumental staircase accepted because it would get people talking about the workshop, when Siméon’s gut had not responded at all, would be carried reluctantly down to the last baluster.

The Sacral waits for something to respond to. Following up with architects, chasing jobs so that the pressure of the Root finds somewhere to land, means opening cycles that nothing asked for, and frustration follows.

Finally, the 32 can be mistaken for a rule. Keeping a supplier because they passed the test ten years ago amounts to trusting an expired signal: the question comes up again with every order.

For you, for others

For you

Let the people who know you hear about the next step you are aiming for: a 4/1 receives their opportunities through them first. A specific request leaves you something to respond to.

For others

When this cross belongs to a craftsman friend, offer them the difficult piece of work before the big job: difficulty is what moves them up. If they decline, do not insist.

Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of Ambition

Is a job turned down a missed step?

A step set aside from the start is not missed: it was not sound that day. The 54 will find another, and the 32 will judge that one in turn.

Does the patience of this cross come from effort?

No. It comes from the 42, which makes any cycle accepted by the Sacral steady; a job that received a real response moves forward without having to force it, and one that did not drags on in spite of the gate.

Does moving up mean going elsewhere?

Nothing requires it. The step the 54 aims for is the one above, wherever it is: a harder piece of work in the same workshop is one.

Does a November signal still hold in March?

Not necessarily. The 32 reads the moment and predicts nothing. An order that was sound in November may no longer be in March: the signal was not wrong, the situation changed and the question comes up again.
