The day before a move, something rises in the woman about to leave and only settles with the first action: the first box set down, the first call made. Opening a chapter costs her little. Closing it is another matter.

Opening a cycle

In the Root, Gate 52 holds pressure back; Gate 53 releases it into a start. The Root, whose pressure asks to be discharged, finds a precise outlet here: opening something new. Starting is this gate’s business; what follows does not depend on it. With Gate 42, Growth, coming from the Sacral, it enters the Channel of Maturation, which bears the number 42-53: the working energy there carries the start from stage to stage until the end of the cycle.

When Gate 42 is missing, Gate 53 defines no center; it keeps its taste for beginnings, with nothing to carry them further than their first impulse.

Always the first day

In four years, Pauline has launched a film club and then a neighborhood book swap. Both started out with enthusiasm; the film club still exists, run by others.

At work, she is the one people turn to when a project has been sitting in a drawer for months. She organizes its first meeting, finds the name, sets the launch date, then hands it over without regret.

Florent, a tradesman, prefers the first visit to a job site over all the ones that follow: measuring, imagining, pricing. The finishing work bores him, but he sees it through.

His chart also contains Gate 42. This Generator only takes on the jobs his gut has responded to, and those go all the way to the last coat of paint, even when the enthusiasm of the first day is long gone.

Getting things started

Gate 53 moves things from the idea to the first action. In a group where everyone is waiting for someone else to start, it supplies the impulse that gets things unstuck.

It doesn’t wait for the project to be perfect: a beginning is worth trying. With Gate 42, the channel gives these starts a follow-through.

Too many starts

A move announced to the family once the lease is signed: for a Manifestor with Gate 53, this start, launched without warning the people it affects, triggers resistance, then an anger that reminds the Manifestor of the forgotten step: informing.

The projects a Projector with Gate 53 proposes to their team every week are ones nobody asked for. The bitterness grows with each idea that goes nowhere.

With so many starts, open projects pile up. Each one claims a little of the pressure the next one lacks; none of them moves forward.

For you, for others

For you

Start when your Strategy gives you the green light, not when the pressure pushes you out the door. A start you chose leaves you enough to keep it going; a start you were pushed into just adds to the pile.

For others

Bring a colleague with Gate 53 in at the beginning of a project, where her drive is most useful, and plan from the outset who will take over for the end. Blaming her for what she hasn’t finished won’t make her finish it.

Frequently asked questions about Gate 53: Beginnings

Is a chart with Gate 53 a Generator’s chart?

Not necessarily. The gate alone defines no center and leaves every Type possible. With Gate 42, 42-53 defines the Sacral; formed without any other channel, it makes a Generator with Sacral Authority.

Does Gate 53 prevent you from finishing?

No. It only takes care of the start; the end depends on something else, on the Sacral when it is defined, on the chart’s Authority in every case.

How do you recognize a good start?

By its source. A beginning that follows the Strategy of the Type has what it takes to last. One launched by pressure alone runs out of steam as soon as the pressure drops.

Do Gates 53 and 54 push in the same way?

Both come from the Root, but they push in two different directions. The first pushes to open a cycle; the second pushes to climb one step above the place you occupy.
