A road chosen without being able to say why receives, months later, a well-turned explanation. Here the argument follows the direction instead of preceding it; the principles set for those close to the person, on the other hand, need to be discussed.

The explanation after the choice

The direction of Gate 2 comes from the G Center; Gate 4, Formulization, works in the Ajna. The mind can therefore explain the direction, but it did not establish it. The explanation arrives after the choice. When the choice comes under attack, the explanation offers it little support: it was built to express the choice, not to decide it.

Ropes on stone

Since its second season, the team of rope access technicians Aymeric leads has worked only on old buildings, bell towers or market halls. He could not say why; the direction was set before he had the slightest reason for it.

He laid down two principles for his four crew members from the very first job: nobody goes up alone; phones stay on the ground while someone is on the rope. The second was revised in a meeting after a year, at everyone’s request, with two fixed breaks for calling back. The choice of old stone, though, was never put to a vote.

The following winter, a client asked him to justify turning down new construction. He presented a solid case about stone, insurance and margins, put together in two weeks. The case was convincing; he knows he built it a year after choosing.

His work orders can be recognized by the sketch of a facade drawn in the corner, even for a simple gutter check.

A road and its rules

Those who follow this person know where they are going before they know why. They do not have to wait for the explanation to get organized.

The direction of the 2 does not shift under objections; the manner of the 1 shows in what the person sets up, a schedule or a work order.

The principles of the 49 give those close to the person clearly stated reference points, such as the division of chores or the limits of shared life. The 4 turns them into sentences that others remember and repeat in the person’s absence.

A group can then discuss the rules of the journey without calling the direction into question.

Borrowed or manufactured reasons

The explanation manufactured after the fact has its downside. When someone close insists, the 4 supplies an elegant argument that has nothing to do with what decided the road. The person then defends their direction with reasons, though it never rested on reasons; at the first counterargument, they may drop it.

The explanation may even come from elsewhere. With an open Ajna, the person takes up, to justify their road, the reasoning of the last convinced person they spoke with, and then defends it as their own thinking.

An open G Center takes its direction from the people around. The principles of the 49 then firmly defend a borrowed road.

These principles also come under the pressure of arguments. Presented as the reasons for the road, they become untouchable, when they were made to be discussed by the people they concern.

For you, for others

For you

To anyone who asks why you took this road, you can answer that you do not know yet. Save your arguments for the rules you propose to others: those benefit from being explained.

For others

If this cross is your brother’s, challenge his rules and leave his road alone: a rule can be discussed and can change, while the direction owes you no explanation, even if it ends up getting one.

Frequently asked questions about the Left Angle Cross of Defiance

Does the explanation for a choice come before or after it?

After. The direction of the 2 rests on no reasoning. The 4, on the Design side, gives shape to whatever comes up, including a choice already made: the explanation follows the direction instead of grounding it.

Does the Left Angle change the direction of Gate 2?

It does not. Gates keep their meaning whatever the angle; the 2 holds its direction without waiting for agreement. The Left Angle, for its part, denotes transpersonal karma, a life that plays out through others.

How do you discuss a decision with someone who has this cross?

On organization, arguments land; on direction, they slide off. Asking the person how they plan to go about it opens the discussion more than asking them why they are going there.

Where can Gate 1 be seen when the road is not explained?

In what the person sets up or makes. A mark can be recognized there, whether or not they have explained their road.
