Two things move at different rhythms in this cross: a direction from the G Center, which holds from one year to the next, and principles born in the Solar Plexus, which follow the wave. Those close to the person learn to recognize which of the two is speaking.
A steady direction, a wave alongside
Not one pair among these four gates joins into a channel. The Solar Plexus, home of Gate 49, Principles, can be defined by a channel from elsewhere. With only the Channel of Intimacy (6-59), for example, the chart would belong to a Generator, with Emotional Authority: rules and choices alike would wait for the end of the wave.
The 4/1 profile gives this cross the Juxtaposition, which Human Design associates with fixed fate. The direction of the 2 and the principles of the 49 do not change in nature because of it.
The winter crossing
In winter, the ferry linking the harbor to the island carries hardly more than three passengers a day. Every year, the town council proposes suspending the route; every year, Annick, who has piloted the boat for twelve years, refuses, with no reason other than the certainty that this route must continue.
During the work on the quay, she had set a rule for her two deckhands: no cargo on board after five in the afternoon. Once the work was finished, she withdrew it of her own accord, much to the surprise of the crew, who thought it was set in stone. The islanders, for their part, recognize her way of docking, always stern first, engine cut a little earlier than the others.
What those close to the person can count on
Those close to this person can count on a direction that does not vary with bad-tempered evenings.
The direction of the 2 comes from the G Center, not from the Solar Plexus where the principles of the 49 live: a rule revised at the bottom of the wave does not move the direction. The decision itself goes through the chart’s authority.
The person’s gestures carry the mark of the 1, which others identify from a distance.
The principles of the 49, once the wave has passed, tell those who live with the person what they can expect of them. The 4 gives them a sentence to remember.
When the rule passes for the road
A rule born of mood can pass for a change of road, in the eyes of those close to the person and of the person themselves.
One angry evening, the person announces they are leaving the association they run, when only an operating rule was at stake: the 49 spoke, the 2 had not moved.
The 4, at the Design Earth, can dress this rule in flawless logic. Spoken at the bottom of the wave, a well-built formula convinces those around before the person has had time to change their mind.
When the G Center is open, the direction itself comes from the people around. The stability that those close to the person attribute to them is then that of the circle they spend time in.
For you, for others
For you
When you are about to announce a change, ask yourself whether it touches your road or only a rule. The road can wait for you to calm down without losing anything; the rule gains from it.
For others
If your mother has this cross and lays down a rule in a tense moment, do not conclude that she is changing course. Come back to the rule later, with her; her direction can be recognized by what does not move.
Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of the Driver
Does the direction of Gate 2 follow the mood of the 49?
It does not. The direction comes from the G Center, the mood from the Solar Plexus: a rule can change with the wave without the road moving. That is in fact how you tell them apart.
How can you recognize a rule laid down in the heat of the moment?
By its timing and its target. Announced right after an upset, aimed at a specific incident, it deserves to be revisited later; one that still makes sense a week later comes from a principle.
Does Gate 4 always formulate in the same way?
Yes when the Ajna is defined: its way of giving shape does not change over the years. With an open Ajna, the 4 still formulates, but by adopting the logic of whoever it is talking to at the time.
Can the 1 and the 2 be read from the outside?
The 1, immediately: people recognize the person by their manner, in a gesture or an object. The 2 is read more slowly, in what stays in place from one year to the next while the rules change.
