In a meeting that’s going in circles, one voice finally proposes the direction, and the room follows. The one speaking doesn’t necessarily have the title of boss. She was recognized, then listened to.

Leading through speech

Gate 7, the Role of the Self, belongs to the G Center; the system sees in it a way of guiding a collective. Gate 31, Leading, is in the Throat, where this role becomes speech. No motor comes into play: the 7-31 on its own gives a Projector with Self-Projected Authority. What the rest of the chart adds decides the Type. With the 2-14, the Sacral’s power passes through the G Center and comes out through the Throat: Manifesting Generator. With the 39-55, the Solar Plexus is defined without connecting to the Throat; you still have a Projector, this time with Emotional Authority.

Collective for the group, Logic for the sub-circuit: the 7-31 shares this classification with the 4-63 and the 5-15. “A Design of Leadership for Good or Bad”: the subtitle speaks of leadership for better or for worse.

Being chosen by the group

The parents’ association has been stuck for three meetings on organizing the school fair. A mother who hadn’t said anything yet sums up the options and proposes one. She is asked to coordinate. The following year, they come looking for her again.

Gate 31 gives a voice to the guiding role that Gate 7 describes. In a Projector’s chart, this voice carries when the group is waiting for it and gets lost in the noise when nobody has asked for anything. In a team that already has a manager, the channel can work on the sidelines: people come and ask this colleague where she would go, before going to see the boss.

Wait for the invitation: that is the Projector’s Strategy. This channel gives it a concrete form: being elected, appointed, called upon. Named by the group, the same person is followed; self-appointed, she is challenged.

A direction that emerges

Once recognized, this leadership gives a group the direction it couldn’t find on its own. Decisions get made, and everyone knows what they’re working toward.

The words of Gate 31 carry weight because they were asked for. One sentence is sometimes enough to put a discussion back on track, when it lands just as the group is trying to decide.

Success, the Projector’s Signature, comes from this recognition: being consulted for what you see, finding your proposals in the group’s decisions.

Taking the lead without a mandate

A colleague hands out roles in a meeting without anyone having entrusted him with anything. He runs into a polite wall. His ideas, some of them good, are ignored, and bitterness builds. A month later, his manager asks him to lead the project; he is followed, without having changed a word of his ideas.

The subtitle is a reminder: for better or for worse. A direction that is followed isn’t necessarily right. A group can go a long way on a mistake because the voice proposing it knew how to convince. A decision that goes through the chart’s Authority, rather than through the mere wish to be followed, limits this risk.

For you, for others

For you

Wait until you’re asked for direction before giving it. When the request comes, state it simply, after checking that it comes from your Authority and not from the pleasure of being listened to.

For others

Ask them clearly for their opinion on which way to go. Without an invitation, this person may stay silent in a meeting while seeing very clearly where to go. A simple question, “Where would you go?”, gives them the floor.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of the Alpha

Does this channel’s leadership require a title?

No. The channel describes a guiding role that comes into play when the group recognizes it, with or without a title.

Does this leadership apply in the family as well as at work?

Yes. Gate 7 describes a way of guiding a collective, whatever it is: a work team as much as a family that has to choose where to spend the summer. What counts is recognition from the group concerned, not the setting.

Does the Channel of the Alpha have the same limits as the 1-8?

Yes. Both run from the G Center to the Throat: any Type except Reflector, any Authority down to Self-Projected. The actual Type depends on the rest of the chart.

Does a Manifestor with this channel also wait for the invitation?

No. Strategy follows the chart’s Type. A chart that adds the 21-45, from the Heart to the Throat, belongs to a Manifestor, who informs before acting. Waiting for the invitation applies to Projector charts.
