The 10 planets in astrology
Western astrology reads ten bodies in a chart: the Sun and the Moon, then eight planets, from Mercury to Pluto. Each one describes a part of the personality and rules one or two signs. Their pages follow the traditional order, from the fastest to the slowest after the two luminaries.
From the Sun to Pluto
- Sun The planet of identity When people talk about “their sign” without saying more, they almost always mean the sign the Sun was in at birth.
- Moon The planet of emotions The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, so two people born in the same week don’t necessarily have the same one.
- Mercury The planet of communication Mercury never strays more than about 28 degrees from the Sun, so it occupies the same sign or one of the two neighboring signs.
- Venus The planet of values and attachment Venus is the “evening star”, the brightest point in the sky after the Moon, visible in the evening after sunset or in the morning before dawn.
- Mars The planet of action Mars shows how a person takes action: what sets them in motion, what makes them angry, the way they fight when something matters.
- Jupiter The planet of expansion It is called the planet of luck, and the nickname says both too much and too little.
- Saturn The planet of structure Around twenty-nine, many people feel something tightening: a career chosen too quickly, a relationship settled into out of habit, a life built to please others.
- Uranus The planet of rupture A job quit overnight, an idea dismissed as crazy that becomes obvious ten years later, a move decided in a single evening: astrologers file this kind of event under Uranus.
- Neptune The planet of dissolution Neptune is the planet of fading boundaries: between yourself and others, between dream and reality, between what you feel and what you know.
- Pluto The planet of transformation Astronomers reclassified it as a dwarf planet in 2006; astrologers, for their part, have kept entrusting it with some of the heaviest passages in a life.
