Attention narrows onto a single piece of work and holds it until it is finished; what it teaches then passes to others, before their eyes. Alongside it, a doubt rechecks the obvious, and memories wait patiently until they find their meaning.

A know-how, two gates in the Head

Gate 16, Skills, at the Earth, finds its harmonic gate in the Spleen Center: Gate 48, Depth. Joined, they would be the two halves of the Channel of the Wavelength, where what the person knows how to do shows at the moment the situation calls for it.

This Juxtaposition, with its fixed fate, also places two Design gates in the Head, the 63 and the 64. Neither Gate 4, Formulization, the 63’s harmonic gate, nor Gate 47, Realization, the 64’s harmonic gate, is in the cross. The presence of either one in the rest of the chart would define the Head and the Ajna.

The swarm in the linden tree

One Tuesday in May, a swarm settles in the linden tree in the schoolyard. The village beekeeper, Ulysse, arrives with a nucleus hive and spends the afternoon there: he follows the cluster with his eyes, patiently, and shakes the branch at just the right moment.

A class watches from behind the window. At recess, a boy asks how you get a swarm into a box. Ulysse shows him, at the edge of the hive box, the first bees going in, then explains it to him in two sentences.

Work someone else can pick up

A piece of work held to the end, then shown to whoever wants to pick it up: the 9 and the 16 turn work into material to pass on.

The 63 checks what everyone takes for granted: whatever holds up can serve as a foundation. The 64 keeps memories on hold until a connection sheds light on them.

A 4/1 only speaks up once the question has been dug into, and those closest to them hear it first.

One more check

The pressure in the Head does not stop when an answer arrives. Without a limit set in advance, one check opens another, and the work of the 9 is left hanging.

The 16 needs an opportunity. A harvesting technique explained in detail to a visitor who came to buy honey falls flat and gives the false impression that no one is interested in this knowledge.

For you, for others

For you

Set aside days for your work when no one is expecting you: that is when your attention holds. A memory that comes back for no reason can leave again without your finding one for it.

For others

When you are waiting for the opinion of someone born with this cross, ask your question early: the answer will come well considered.

Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of Focus

Is Gate 52 missing from this cross?

It is not part of it. This cross bears the same name as Gate 9, Focus, the gate of the Channel of Concentration, but the cross contains only the gate: the 52, Stillness, which would form the channel with the 9, stays outside the four positions. A chart that has it elsewhere defines the Sacral and the Root.

Can you doubt and stay focused?

Yes, on two different objects. The 9 settles on the accepted task; the 63 puts to the test an idea accepted without examination. One works, the other checks what is held to be true.

Without the 16, what would become of the work?

It would stay in the workshop. The 16 brings it out through the Throat: what the 9 has held on to becomes a gesture or an explanation someone else can pick up, given in front of them.

Does what resurfaces through the 64 help the work?

Not on demand. The gate brings up lived scenes whose meaning arrives in its own time, sometimes when two of them come together. One of them may shed light on a way of doing things, with nothing to guarantee it.
