A piece of work begun at the request of others is carried through to its last stage, within rules nobody chose. Instinct says at each milestone whether it should go on; each stage completed becomes a story that brings back those who were absent.
Two motors, no channel
Gate 42, Growth, sits in the Sacral, and Gate 60, Acceptance, in the Root: the cross thus has a gate in two motors, with no channel between them. The Left Angle, for its part, brings together those who need other people to carry their purpose through.
The harmonic gate the 60 lacks, Gate 3, Ordering, happens to be in the Sacral. A chart that has both gets the Channel of Mutation: the constancy of the 42 then rests on a defined gut; this channel moves forward in fits and starts, a long calm and then a sudden leap.
The village washhouse
The village washhouse was falling into ruin when the mayor asked Nelly to coordinate its restoration by a team of volunteers. Her gut said yes before her head did.
For three years, the work has moved forward stage by stage: the frame, the roof, then the basin.
The heritage architect required lime and banned cement, which would have cost half as much. Nelly did not argue with the rule; she looked for a mason who knew lime and set the schedule around the drying times.
Every month, the team has dinner together. Nelly tells them about the stage just completed, the beam that turned out to be hollow, the volunteer who fell into the empty basin. Those who had missed a day on site come back for the next one.
A project that holds within its rules
The 42 carries what has been accepted to its full measure. A washhouse restored stone by stone reaches the end because every stage has been nurtured.
Gate 32, Continuity, asks the question of what comes next again at each milestone. The work goes on because it is still sound, not just because it has begun.
The 60 turns a constraint into a framework. The drive stays whole: it works with the rule instead of exhausting itself against it.
Gate 56, Stimulation, keeps a team connected. A story told over dinner reminds everyone of what has been done and makes them want to come back.
Continuing out of fear or duty
An open Spleen Center blurs the 32: continuing reassures, stopping worries. Once the washhouse is finished, the team can stay together out of fear of the void more than out of desire.
With an open Throat, the story of the 56 adjusts to whoever is at the table: in front of the old-timers, the hollow beam becomes a feat, in front of the mayor a mere incident; Nelly ends up no longer knowing which version is hers.
A Generator can also hold on to a project their gut never said yes to, because people were counting on them. The 42 provides the staying power without providing the desire: each stage weighs more than the one before, and frustration builds toward the end.
For you, for others
For you
Let an imposed rule become the framework for the work before trying to get around it: you will then know whether it really gets in the way.
For others
With a neighbor who has this cross, take her refusal to expand a successful project as an answer, not as modesty. And come back to the project dinners: that is where she tells you how the work is going.
Frequently asked questions about the Left Angle Cross of Limitation
Does a rule imposed on the project dent the drive?
Not with Gate 60. It welcomes a real limit without wearing itself out fighting it, and the Root keeps its pressure intact for the rest of the work.
What is the instinct of the 32 worth in the middle of a long project?
It looks only at the moment. At each stage, it can confirm what comes next or hold back; it promises nothing for the stage after.
Is a story told by the 56 faithful to the facts?
The gate does not guarantee it. It gives the story a form that changes with the audience; the substance is up to the person telling it, and the same stage is not told the same way to the schoolchildren and to the town council.
How far does the 42 make a piece of work grow?
Until it is mature; the cycle stops there. Expanding beyond that, adding a fountain to the washhouse for example, takes a new response from the Sacral.
