Keeping what deserves to be kept, without confusing it with what is kept out of attachment: everything hinges on that difference. What has been kept grows slowly; the limits of the moment are respected without bitterness.
A sorting done over and over
The sorting of the 32 is done again as soon as what comes next is at stake; it is the whole cross, as a Juxtaposition, that is described as a fixed fate.
The 32 lacks its harmonic gate, Gate 54, Ambition. With it, the Channel of Transformation would connect the Spleen Center to the Root, where the 60 already sits. With this as its only channel, the chart would be that of a Projector: the sorting of the 32 would become their way of deciding.
Thirty chairs
Martial directs his village choir; two thirds of the singers were already singing with him at the first rehearsal. When the neighboring town proposed merging the two choirs, he answered that same evening that the choir would carry on alone, and the singers took a season to understand why this refusal had relieved them.
The village hall has only thirty chairs. Martial has never looked for anything bigger: when a thirty-first singer turns up, he opens a waiting list and says so plainly.
An alto who joined at sixteen now sings the solos; he brought her along from one section to the next, without rushing her.
Keeping without freezing
Gate 32, Continuity, sorts out what deserves to continue, and Gate 42, Growth, makes it grow to maturity. What the person keeps has passed the sorting at the moment a decision had to be made, then has been nurtured.
Gate 60, Acceptance, gives a real limit its place without making a drama of it. Gate 56, Stimulation, tells afterward of the seasons gone through together: a group finds its memory there.
Loyalty or instinct
The 4/1’s loyalty toward the people close to them can hold on to a bond that no longer brings much, while the 32 asks the question of what comes next again regardless of seniority; when the two contradict each other, loyalty speaks louder, because it has arguments.
Acceptance can also outlive the limit. Once the hall has been enlarged, the waiting list can stay open out of habit: the 60 keeps consenting to a constraint that no longer exists.
For you, for others
For you
Faced with a long-standing bond, ask two questions separately: do you care about it, and is continuing sound today? The first answer does not commit you to the second.
For others
When a friend whose chart contains this cross tells you about a season you spent together, listen to the end: it is her way of saying what she has kept.
Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation
Does the 42 make what is kept out of habit grow?
It makes what the gut has chosen grow. What is kept against instinct can last a long time, but nothing ripens in it: it repeats itself.
Is keeping what is sound a refusal of change?
It is the opposite: deciding what continues is also deciding what stops. The 32 decides in both directions, at every deadline.
Do the stories of the 56 change what is conserved?
They tell it without choosing it. The 32 decides in the moment; the 56 then gives a form to the memory, which the audience takes away with them.
What distinguishes a bond that is kept from a sound one?
The moment it is judged. The 32 asks the question again at every deadline, regardless of seniority; a bond kept because it is old never goes back through the sorting.
