A salesman doesn’t dream of running the company: he wants the job just above his own, then the next one. This urge to rise is felt in the body, as an impatience that only settles once the step has been climbed.
Moving up a notch
The word suggests a thirst for power. Gate 54 refers to something else: a pressure from the Root that pushes you to leave the place you are in for the one above, whatever it may be.
This pressure is physical. The Root is a motor that never touches the Throat directly; its push passes through other centers.
The push of Gate 54 reaches the Spleen Center through its partner, Gate 32, Continuity. The channel they form is called the Channel of Transformation, or 32-54: in it, the instinct of Gate 32 sorts, in the moment, the opportunities that ambition would like to seize.
Formed on its own, this channel makes a Projector with Splenic Authority. Any chart that contains it has Emotional, Sacral or Splenic Authority, since the Spleen Center comes before the Heart and the following centers in the order of the calculation.

Sami, an apprentice baker, already knows he wants his own shop. He doesn’t talk about money; he talks about the day he will make his bread his own way.
Djamila works at a travel agency and takes management classes in the evening. She isn’t aiming for the regional director job, only the branch manager’s job. She already knows which one she will aim for next.
Sami has a Projector chart. He waits for his boss to offer him the chance to run the shop for a weekend; the invitation comes after two years, and his first batch is sold out before noon.
Progress with fuel in the tank
Training in the evening, asking for a responsibility, leaving a job that has become too small: for each of these steps, Gate 54 supplies the fuel.
This ambition needs no audience. It is measured by the place you occupy yourself, from one stage to the next, not by the neighbors’ place.
Within the channel, Gate 32 adds an instinctive caution to it: each climb passes through the Spleen Center before being attempted.
For a Projector who is offered the next step, the push finally finds somewhere to be put to use, and success, the sign that a Projector is following their Strategy, is likely to come.
Climbing for the sake of climbing
The team leader job is offered on a Monday; Matthieu, a Generator, accepts it within the hour, because the Root was demanding movement. His gut, for its part, had given no answer. The first months go by in a job he had not chosen, and frustration, the warning signal of his Type, never leaves him.
Once a step is climbed, the next one is already calling. A job left after six months for the one above leaves half-finished files behind; the pressure of the Root calms down for a week, then starts up again, without the person having enjoyed the position they gained.

Is the ambition of Gate 54 material?
No object is set for it. The gate pushes upward; toward what, the chart doesn’t say. A skill can serve as a step just as much as a salary.
Why does instinct put the brakes on ambition?
Because the push of Gate 54 passes through Gate 32, Continuity, whose signal arrives at first contact. An opportunity that puts the whole at risk is ruled out at once, however much it shines.
Does the impatience of Gate 54 make the decision?
No. The Root supplies the drive, it doesn’t decide: it does not appear in the order of authorities. It is the deciding center in the chart that says whether the step should be climbed now.
Does ambition without Gate 32 lack caution?
It lacks the sorting Gate 32 does within the channel, not all caution. The chart’s Authority is still there to say yes or no to each step.
