What a person wants and the principles they insist on seeing respected meet in this channel, without carrying quite the same weight from one day to the next. A rule that seemed fair the night before can feel unfair on waking.

Needs weighed by the wave

Gate 19, Wanting, belongs to the Root, a pressure center; Gate 49, Principles, to the Solar Plexus, the seat of the emotional wave. Both centers are motors.

Neither reaches the Throat by this route, so the channel alone doesn’t take the chart out of Projector. Adding the 35-36, a direct path from the Solar Plexus to the Throat, makes it a Manifestor; the 3-60, which defines the Sacral, a Generator. Whatever the other channels, the decision stays Emotional, since the Solar Plexus comes first in the order of authorities.

As for circuits, the sources used confirm only the group: Tribal. There the 19-49 sits alongside the 6-59, the 21-45, the 26-44, the 27-50, the 32-54 and the 37-40.

The fridge rule

In a four-person house share, one of the housemates is the first to notice that one person no longer chips in for groceries and another is coming home later and later. She says nothing for a while. One Sunday, she proposes a new rule for the fridge, and everyone realizes she had been thinking about it for a long time.

The Root pushes; Gate 19, Wanting, turns that push into a specific need. On the Solar Plexus side, Gate 49 is called Principles; there the wave gives each need a different weight depending on the moment.

The wave also sets the timing of decisions. Emotional Authority asks you to wait for a stable answer to emerge: the housemate who wants to change the rule does well to look at it in several moods, on a tired evening and a rested morning, before proposing it.

For a Projector, the Strategy adds an invitation. Her proposals for the house share go down better when the others have asked her to arbitrate.

Agreements that hold

Once the wave has passed, what Gate 19 asks for and what Gate 49 holds to be fair can fit in the same sentence: “I need the grocery shopping to be shared; I suggest we take turns each week.” The need arrives with its rule, without any accusation.

Set out calmly, her principles become rules others accept without feeling judged. A year later, the fridge rule still holds, and nobody remembers the argument that gave rise to it.

At the peak or in the trough

Deciding while the wave is in full rise or full fall is the first pitfall. In the middle of an argument, the housemate announces she’s looking for another apartment; the next morning, she’s no longer quite sure why. The decision came before clarity.

Principles can also harden. When her need isn’t heard, she may put up one more rule on the fridge instead of reopening the discussion about the one that no longer works.

On the evening her wave is at its lowest, she keeps what bothers her to herself, and the whole household’s evening revolves around a tension nobody has named.

For you, for others

For you

Give yourself time to look at a need or a rule in several moods before deciding. Your needs deserve to be voiced; expressed calmly, they are easier to hear and easier to stick to.

For others

A rule set by this person has been thought over longer than it seems. If they’re slow to answer a proposal, give them that time: their clarity comes with time.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Synthesis

Does this channel only come into play within a family?

The house share on this page is just an example. The system describes two gates, Wanting in the Root and Principles in the Solar Plexus, which the wave makes weigh more or less depending on the moment; a team or an association brings them into play just as much as a household.

What does the emotional wave look like with this channel?

According to the system, like a rising and falling movement that doesn’t depend on events. At the peak, a need of Gate 19 feels pressing; in the trough, the same need seems secondary, with nothing having changed in the house.

Is voicing a need as binding as adopting a rule?

No: pointing out that a need exists commits you to nothing and can be done at any time. The wave matters for what is binding, a rule to adopt or an agreement to break; Emotional Authority then asks you to wait until the answer stays the same at the peak and in the trough.

Two defined motors: what difference does that make for the person?

Not their Type, since neither reaches the Throat through this channel. The difference shows in decision-making: the Root has no rank in the calculation of Authority, so its pressure never decides; the Solar Plexus outranks all the other centers. A pressing need waits until the wave has come full circle.
