Kin 18: White Overtone Mirror
Dreamspell
18of 260
What the Overtone Mirror shows someone often weighs more than they would like: it is received as a verdict.
You simply describe what you see, a contradiction in what someone says, a tiredness a friend will not admit to herself, and the person facing you leaves as if a judgment had been handed down. The Overtone gives your reflection a weight you never asked for. People come to consult you before a decision, sometimes so that you will say for them what is.
A Mirror reflects, it does not rule: all the friction comes from the role people assign you. When everyone organizes themselves around what you have seen, it becomes hard to remind them that you only showed an image, and the temptation arises to soften what you perceive so as not to weigh too heavily. The reflection then loses its sharpness. The World-Bridger, which guides this Kin, works at thresholds: it helps what is finished to leave so that what comes next can arrive. It offers your Mirror something the reflection alone does not, a passage. What you help someone see does not have to remain a sentence carved in stone; it becomes the door through which that person leaves behind an old image of themselves.
Showing without softening, knowing that your words count, then letting the other person cross alone the threshold you have pointed to: that is the discipline this Kin asks of you.
