A piece of work, once accepted, takes up all the attention until the final check, and then what it taught is shown to whoever will use it. Around this work, effort offered to those close to the person and friendships that shift with the mood form a complete channel.
A channel held by the Design
Gate 40, Aloneness, and Gate 37, Friendship, are both on the Design side, where together they form the Channel of Community. Every chart with this cross therefore has a defined Heart and Solar Plexus, with Emotional Authority: a defined Solar Plexus takes precedence over the other centers when it comes to deciding.
The Sacral, where the 9 sits, stays outside this channel. If the chart also has Gate 52, Stillness, the Channel of Concentration links it to Gate 9, Focus; the Sacral is then defined. Reduced to these gates and their two channels alone, the chart would belong to a Generator, and its authority would remain emotional.
A railing, identical to the original
The order from the town hall reached the ironwork shop on a Thursday: a staircase railing to be remade identical to the original, scrolls included.
Simon forges the first scroll all afternoon. The phone rings twice without his hearing it; lunchtime goes by without his noticing. He only looks up at nightfall, the scroll resting on the anvil.
At the site meeting, the architect is surprised that the scrolls of the old railing are not all alike. Simon picks up a piece of the old handrail and shows, without a word too many, where the blacksmith of the time must have put the piece back in the fire.
The architect corrects his drawing to keep these irregularities; the new railing will have its reworkings too.
A job seen through, a detail passed on
A task the gut has accepted moves forward without scattering: the 9 puts the strength of the Sacral into it and lets nothing else take its attention. What comes out of it does not stay in the workshop: the 16, at the Personality Earth, sends it through the Throat, in a gesture or in words, in front of whoever needs it.
Toward those close to the person, the Channel of Community brings a will that keeps its word. Help promised after a time of reflection is given in full; the withdrawal that follows, characteristic of the 40, makes the next time possible.
Promising at the peak
The defined Solar Plexus colors every commitment. At the high point of an end-of-season dinner, Simon offers to forge the gates for the whole square the town is renovating the following summer; in the low, the promise weighs on him, and the Heart will keep it anyway, without enthusiasm.
When the Sacral is open, the 9 borrows the drive of those around. A day on site shared with the crew stretches on without anything signaling the limit. It is the next day that the fatigue shows.

Without Gate 52, does the focus of the 9 still hold?
It holds on the task the gut has chosen. The 52 would bring the pressure of the Root and form the Channel of Concentration with the 9; without it, the attention stays on a single object with the strength of the Sacral, or with that of the people around when this center is open.
What sets the four Crosses of Planning apart?
First, the gate of the Personality Sun. All four bring together the same gates and belong to the Right Angle, said to be a personal destiny. In this one, the Personality Sun is in the 9, an attention that settles on one task at a time, and the Channel of Community belongs entirely to the Design.
Does showing what you know mean you have to teach?
Gate 16 only asks for someone this knowledge is useful to, at the moment it is useful. A customer at the counter, a neighbor stuck in front of a machine: the skill comes out for them, with no curriculum and no classroom.
Does the Solar Plexus wave affect focus?
Not directly. The wave colors bonds and promises, on the side of the 37 and the 40; the 9 follows what the Sacral has responded to. A commitment made in a burst of enthusiasm can still saddle it with a task the gut had not chosen.
