An idea given at the moment someone is looking for it quickly becomes the habit of a whole team. Behind it stand a craft learned by practicing it and commitments the gut accepted before the head found reasons for them.
A contribution that is not yet signed
No gate of the cross meets its harmonic gate here. The 8’s is Gate 1, Self-Expression, in the G Center: together, they would form the Channel of Inspiration. With that one channel added to the four gates, the chart would belong to a Projector.
Without Gate 1, the contribution of the 8 comes out in its own way; it lacks the mark of its author, which the Channel of Inspiration would add. What the team takes up, then, is an idea that works.
The terrace table numbers
One Saturday in June, the brasserie terrace is overflowing and orders get lost between the bar and the kitchen. At the staff meal, the owner asks if anyone has an idea.
Perrine, a server for nine years, suggests sending the dishes out row by row, from the wall toward the street, the corner table last: that is how she has worked her section for years. The owner tries it that very evening; the kitchen follows the rhythm of the rows, and not a single plate goes cold at the pass anymore.
No one taught her this way of working the floor; it took shape service after service. By the end of the summer, the other servers work the floor the way she does and talk about “the house method,” without remembering where it came from.
Changing the habits of a team
An idea that comes out when a group is looking for it changes the way the group works, without a meeting or a rulebook. Gate 8, Contribution, brings this offering out; Gate 14, Power Skills, supplies its substance, a know-how built up on tasks the gut wanted.
The Design governs commitment. Gate 29, Saying Yes, gives a yes that lasts a long time and a no just as clear; Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, lets broader desires pass through several moods before they earn that yes.
The idea launched to be noticed
With an open Throat, the 8 can change its motive: the idea comes out so that its author gets noticed, more than because it is useful. Perrine went through this in her first job, where she suggested a new table layout every week; none of them lasted.
Another tendency affects the 14 and the 29: a recognized know-how brings a flood of requests, and every yes given out of politeness takes hours the gut never offered.
If the Solar Plexus is defined, the 30 changes the way decisions are made: the authority is emotional, and a commitment signed in the excitement of an evening weighs on the slow weeks that follow.
For you, for others
For you
Save your ideas for the moment someone is looking for a solution, because that is when they become a group’s habit.
For others
A coworker on your shift has this cross? Ask for her idea when the problem comes up rather than at next month’s meeting. If she turns down a proposal without giving a reason, that refusal is already her answer.
Frequently asked questions about the Right Angle Cross of Contagion
What does Gate 1 do when it joins the 8?
The two gates form the Channel of Inspiration, between the G Center and the Throat. The contribution then keeps the mark of its author: those who take it up know whom it comes from.
Does a good idea always end up being taken up?
No. Whether it is taken up depends on timing: offered when a group is searching, the idea of the 8 becomes a habit; pushed toward people who were not asking for anything, it goes nowhere, however sound it may be.
Does a method adopted by a whole team bind the person who came up with it?
Not beyond what they choose. A personal destiny is what the Right Angle describes: the fact that a discovery serves others does not chart its author’s path for them.
Is refusing without giving a reason a real answer?
It is. The no of the 29 carries the same weight as its yes and keeps the Sacral’s strength for something else; the reasons can come later, the gut’s answer did not need them.
