Loved ones, sometimes strangers, come and tell someone what they haven’t confided to anyone else. What is received is kept long enough to settle, and only comes out afterward.

From listening to telling

Gate 13, The Listener, is in the G Center. Human Design makes it the gate of confidences: those close to whoever has it in their chart come and leave their stories with them.

Gate 33, Privacy, belongs to the Throat. The system describes it as a gate that holds an experience back until it has settled. The channel brings the two together: what has been heard goes through a period of silence before becoming speech.

With no motor, the 13-33 on its own makes a Projector whose decisions go through the G Center: Self-Projected Authority, that of Projectors who discover their choice by saying it.

Combined with other channels, the 13-33 lets the Type vary, within two limits. The Reflector is ruled out. As for Authority, it never goes down as far as the mind, since the Ajna and the Head come after the G Center. With the 2-14, the Sacral reaches the Throat by passing through the G Center: Manifesting Generator, Sacral Authority. With the 18-58, the Type doesn’t change, but the Spleen Center, now defined, makes the decision.

It is one of the channels of the Collective circuit, with no sub-circuit specified. Along with the 1-8, the 7-31 and the 10-20, it is also one of the four channels connecting the G Center to the Throat.

The confidant on the train

On the train, a woman he doesn’t know tells a man about her father’s illness, then apologizes for having said so much. It isn’t the first time people have talked to him like this. He listens, asks two questions and says nothing about himself.

He doesn’t repeat anything either, at least not right away. Much later, having become a trainer, he will tell a story of this kind, with no name or recognizable detail, at the moment a trainee needs it. The experience he heard has ripened; now it serves someone else.

There remains the question of timing. For a Projector, the story finds its audience when they’re invited to tell it: “Have you ever seen that happen?” With Self-Projected Authority, the person also benefits from talking through their own choices out loud, in front of someone who listens without giving advice, just as they know how to do for others.

A memory for stories

The channel makes the person a keeper. What is entrusted to them is kept, then given back with some distance, to whoever can make use of it.

This discretion inspires trust. People talk to them because they know the confidence won’t make the rounds of the office, and what they end up saying has been weighed.

Keeping too much, or speaking too soon

Social life pushes people to react right away and share the news. A story told before it has ripened comes out raw; the person sometimes feels they have betrayed what was entrusted to them.

The opposite excess exists too. Keeping everything ends up weighing heavily. A Projector who holds back what they have seen waits for an invitation that doesn’t come, until bitterness sets in. Someone who listens to everyone indiscriminately has no room left for their own stories.

For you, for others

For you

Nothing obliges you to tell right away what you have lived through or heard. Let it ripen; when someone asks about your experience, it will be ready, and you’ll find the words by listening to yourself speak.

For others

What you confide to this person isn’t repeated straight away. To get their opinion, ask for it openly and give them time to answer: their silence in the moment doesn’t mean they have nothing to say.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of the Prodigal

Does a person with this channel hide things?

The channel holds speech back for a time, which is not the same as hiding. What is kept eventually comes out as a story, once the experience has ripened and someone asks for it.

What does the 25-51 change in a chart with the 13-33?

It connects the Heart to the G Center, so that willpower reaches the Throat through this channel. The chart becomes a Manifestor’s, and Authority passes to the Ego, since the Heart comes before the G Center.

Does receiving confidences require a defined G Center?

No. According to the system, Gate 13 attracts confidences whether the G Center is defined or not. The complete channel adds the Privacy of the Throat, and with it the time to keep things before saying them.

Where does the 13-33 fit among the circuits?

In the Collective group, with no sub-circuit specified. Yet the 10-20 connects the same centers and belongs to the Individual circuit and the Integration Channel: the circuit can’t be deduced from the centers connected.
