Closeness is granted or refused in stages, to the rhythm of moods that rise and fall. Nothing is sealed on the impulse of one evening, in friendship any more than in love.

A wave that keeps the upper hand

Gate 59, Sexuality, belongs to the Sacral, the center of the work force, which extends to sexuality. Gate 6, Friction, belongs to the Solar Plexus; the system credits it with regulating the distance from others: who may come close, and when.

The Solar Plexus is defined as soon as the channel is. Since no center outranks it in the order of authorities, the Authority of any chart containing the 6-59 is Emotional, whatever the other channels.

The defined Sacral makes it a Generator, or a Manifesting Generator if a motor connects to the Throat: the 12-22 or the 35-36, two channels between the Solar Plexus and the Throat, are enough. On its own, the 6-59 gives a Generator with Emotional Authority; adding the 1-8 doesn’t change the Type, because that channel connects two centers that touch no motor in the chart. The channel belongs to the Tribal group.

Closeness that gets built

At a cousin’s wedding, a man finds himself seated next to a woman he doesn’t know. They talk for three hours. The next day, he wants to call her. The day after that, the urge has faded, without anything having happened.

This rise and fall is the emotional wave. The decision to commit waits until it has come full circle: what remains once the mood has settled weighs more than the impulse of the first evening.

Responding to what comes, as the Generator’s Strategy asks, completes the picture. The dinner invitation, the outstretched hand: these come first from the other person, and the Sacral says whether the body wants to go.

At work, the same movement governs alliances. A colleague who let the bond form at her own pace becomes an ally; another, who pushes too early, stays at a distance without any open conflict.

Between two longtime friends, a frank disagreement, voiced once the wave has subsided, sometimes brings them closer than a compliment.

Bonds that last

An intimacy born of this channel, once it has stood the test of time, holds. The bond rests on a yes from the gut that the whole wave has confirmed. Those close to the person know that a commitment they make has been weighed.

Whatever two people found together finds in the Sacral what it needs to last, whether it’s a household or a business. Two partners who chose each other slowly can count on one another when the bad years come.

Committing at the wrong moment

A commitment made at the peak of the wave rests on a passing emotion. When it falls away, the relationship remains, with its obligations, and the person wonders what led them into it.

At the low point, the same haste cuts ties. A partnership offer turned down curtly, at the bottom of the wave, doesn’t come back when the mood rises again.

Conditioning also comes through other people. Someone who forces closeness, or people around them who find slowness suspicious, push the person to give in without a response from the Sacral. Frustration then settles into the relationship itself.

For you, for others

For you

Before saying yes to a bond that commits you, let several moods pass. If your answer stays the same whether you’re calm or enthusiastic, you can trust it. An “I’ll get back to you next week” is not a dodge.

For others

A proposal made to this person needs time before you get their real answer. Don’t rush them. Also avoid taking their first burst of enthusiasm for a promise.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Intimacy

Is the 6-59 only about sexuality?

Gate 59 bears that name, and the Sacral extends to sexuality. But Gate 6 regulates the distance from others in general: the channel also concerns friendship and work.

Can you have this channel without Emotional Authority?

No. The Solar Plexus is defined along with it, and the calculation consults it first to determine Authority.

Should a first impulse be ignored?

No. The impulse says something about the moment, and the Sacral may have responded to it. It isn’t enough to commit: the answer that counts is the one that holds once the mood has come full circle.
