A game without a guarantee is decided by instinct, in the moment it comes along, then sustained day after day through care given when the gut agrees. On the Design side, words that orient a group and a push toward the unknown complete the stake.
Instinct and its pressure
Gate 28, the Game Player, belongs to the Spleen Center, attentive to the moment; its harmonic gate, Gate 38, the Fighter, sits in the Root. The cross already touches that center through Gate 41, Contraction. If this 28-38, the Channel of Struggle, were the only channel in the chart, it would be the chart of a Projector with Splenic Authority: the Game Player’s instinct would have the last word; the Root would supply what it takes to play the game to the end.
Twelve cows of an old breed
A retiring farmer in Finistère is looking for someone to take over his twelve cows of an old local breed; otherwise they will go to the slaughterhouse. No one knows whether their milk will find a buyer. Gwenaëlle, who runs a dairy farm twenty kilometers away, goes to see them one Sunday, stays leaning on the gate for a long time, and says she will take them. The old man asks if he can come and see them now and then; she immediately feels like opening her farmyard to him; he now comes by every Thursday.
At the cooperative’s general meeting, a board member asks her what she plans to do with that milk. She proposes a separate collection, once a week, and the meeting adopts it. The following year, her proposal on prices convinces no one; she does not insist.
A stake you can sustain
A game with an unknown outcome can be played for a long time. The Game Player commits the person without calculating the odds; Gate 27, Caring, at the Personality Earth, provides what it takes to last. Its concrete care, for the animals, for the neighbors or for the person themselves, draws on a Sacral strength that renews itself when the gut has responded.
Gate 31, Leading, lends these games a voice when others need one: a proposal made at a group’s request, which the group adopts or sets aside. The 41 gets the body ready to leave the familiar; it does not pick the game, the Game Player takes care of that.
The Right Angle, described as personal destiny, changes nothing about the games themselves: each is still chosen in the moment it comes along.
Betting to end the waiting
The 41 pushes; its pressure settles for the first outlet that comes along. The Game Player then risks betting just to be done with the waiting, on a game its instinct had not picked.
With an open Root, the pressure of the people around adds to the person’s own. At the agricultural fair, the excitement of the farmers around a new milking robot can lead Gwenaëlle to sign for a loan she has no use for.
Help granted because it was granted the time before no longer has a response behind it. Each request, even from the same neighbor, waits for its own; without it, the strength that sustained the game runs out.
For you, for others
For you
Give your body the first word on a game, before the numbers. If it pulls back, let the game go by without looking for an argument against it. The ones it accepts, you will sustain through daily care, starting with the care you owe yourself.
For others
Present a business partner who has this cross with a whole project, in one piece, and let her answer on the spot. Her bets will surprise you; ask her what she needs to sustain them, without demanding that she justify them.
Frequently asked questions about the Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected
Does a lost game prove the Game Player wrong?
Instinct judges the game in the moment, without promising anything about its outcome. A lost game is still a chosen game; the yes of the first day does not have to be defended after the fact.
Does the Game Player only bet money?
Nothing limits the stake to money: a job, time, a reputation can be at stake. Gate 28 describes accepting a game whose outcome remains open, whatever the stakes.
Does the 27 hold back the bets?
It does not hold them back, it gives them a second phase. The 28 commits to the game; the 27 responds, day after day, to the concrete needs it creates. Both rest on a response from the body, one from instinct, the other from the gut.
Does responding to a meeting’s request make the person a leader?
Gate 31 proposes a direction for the length of a decision, without a mandate. The meeting follows it or not, and the next proposal will wait for a new request: no position comes with it.
