Holding on where others let go, yet turning back without shame when the body says no: on the Design side, an immediate alertness tempers the tenacity; a shock sets it going again after a setback.
Three centers, two harmonic gates to find
The four gates of this Left Angle version, an angle described as transpersonal karma, occupy the Root, the Spleen Center and the Heart; no pair forms a channel there. In the Spleen Center, Gate 28, the Game Player, is the harmonic gate of the 38. With it, the Channel of Struggle connects tenacity to the center of the 57, and the Design’s alertness then sits in a defined center.
The 51 has its own harmonic gate in the G Center, Gate 25, Spirit of the Self: their Channel of Initiation turns the shock toward a commitment whose outcome nobody knows.
Turning back twenty meters from the top
Viviane is a high mountain guide. The third summer, she returns by the opposite face to a ridge that turned her back two summers in a row, with a client who had followed her both times.
Twenty meters from the summit, she turns back without being able to say why. The client protests, then falls silent.
On the way down, Viviane suggests they come back together the following summer and writes the date in her notebook.
Tenacity that knows how to step back
Turning back no longer passes for defeat: the 38 at the Personality Sun holds out against the obstacle, and the Design’s 57 judges in a split second whether the place is safe.
The 39, at the Earth, gets things moving where they stagnate with a remark or a challenge thrown out at the right moment.
A setback does not keep the person down for long: the 51 uses it to start again.
Revenge and the mood at the hut
The 51 seeks out the ordeal, the 38 refuses to let go. Together, they turn a failed climb into a score to settle, and the ridge becomes a matter of revenge.
Without definition, the Root takes in the tension of the people around and gives it back stronger: at the mountain hut, an argument about breakfast time becomes a matter of principle.
The alertness of the 57 indicates whether a place is safe at a given moment, not whether to commit for a whole season. Viviane has already turned down a summer contract on nothing more than the impression of one spring morning.
For you, for others
For you
Respect your decisions to turn back, even when nobody understands them. Your tenacity deserves fights your authority has chosen, not grudge matches.
For others
When a climbing partner with this cross gives up at the last moment, do not ask her for reasons: she does not have any yet. Offer her challenges she is free to turn down.
Frequently asked questions about the Left Angle Cross of Individualism
Does turning back mean giving up?
Not with these gates. The 38 holds on as long as the obstacle is there; the 57 signals, in the moment, that the place is no longer safe. Stepping back on that signal leaves the tenacity intact for next time.
Does a setback really get things going again?
Yes, when it shakes without breaking: the 51 sets the will back in motion. After a serious event, outside help is still needed, whatever the chart.
Where does the urge to fight come from?
From the pressure of the Root, which the 38 turns into tenacity. This pressure pushes without deciding: the choice of a struggle belongs to the center that carries the chart’s authority, never to the Root.
Does seeking out harder and harder climbs make sense?
The 51 likes to test itself, against a rival or against its own limits, and the 38 finds in difficulty something to work on. A climb chosen according to the chart’s authority brings out the best in them; a climb chosen to prove something puts the person at risk.
