The wish to welcome people rises and falls without checking the calendar; it is what makes the first move. What a good evening has opened must then last: a value to defend, people to bring together, a meaning that will come late.

The wave, far from the voice

The Solar Plexus, the center of Gate 22, Openness, stays open as long as no channel connects it to another center, whether through its harmonic gate, Gate 12, Caution, or by another route. Once defined, it sets the authority of the whole chart: the value upheld by Gate 26, the Egoist, and the words of Gate 45, The Gatherer, then wait for the end of the wave.

When open, it takes on the mood of those around and amplifies it; the wish to welcome can then come from the room more than from the person, and die out once the guests have left. The Right Angle of this version reads as a personal destiny.

Winter Sundays

One October evening, a storytelling session ends late at the public library of a small town in Normandy. Éloïse, who runs it, serves cider to the parents who have stayed to chat and, carried away, suggests opening on Sunday mornings until spring. Twelve families sign up before putting their coats back on.

On the first Sunday, she brings cushions from home and stays an hour longer than planned. In January, she sometimes opens without the slightest wish to see anyone; the children come anyway, and a retired volunteer reads them the story while she shelves the returns.

Defending the open place

What is born of an evening of hospitality can last beyond the mood that gave rise to it. The 22 opens the place; the 26, on the Design side, knows how to state the worth of what happens there and backs it when it is questioned.

The 45 turns a passing audience into a group that recognizes itself: those who came once know they are counted on the next time.

Gate 47, Realization, at the Earth, lets the seasons pile up without concluding too fast. What they have taught about the place and the people who come there eventually becomes readable, all at once, through a detail.

Welcome on the clock

A public service promises the same welcome from Tuesday to Saturday. On days when the wish is not there, Éloïse provides it anyway, smile included; in the evening, she comes home drained and cancels the dinner planned at her sister’s.

The 26 adds a risk specific to this version: defending with full confidence a project born in the rush of a good evening. The project gets what it asked for; the person finds themselves bound by a promise that no duller day has yet put to the test.

Without the 12 in the chart, the 22 enters no channel that leads it to the Throat. The mood then shows in a door open or shut, in tea served or not; those around take a while to understand that it varies.

For you, for others

For you

Treat a promise made in the rush of an evening as a draft, until a duller morning still finds it good.

For others

Does your colleague have this cross? Her door may be wide open one evening and shut the next: come back without asking for an explanation. The day she defends a project with aplomb, discuss the project before discussing the way she says it.

Frequently asked questions about the Right Angle Cross of Rulership

Does an open Heart prevent you from defending a project?

The aplomb of the 26 depends on no definition: an open Heart does not take it away. It makes willpower less constant from one day to the next: better, then, to promise in proportion to what the week will allow.

Does defending the value of a place contradict the wish to welcome people there?

The two complement each other. The 26 watches over the worth of what it supports, a place, a project, its own work; welcoming generously and getting the value of that welcome recognized are not at odds.

Does the 45 need a crowd?

A group waiting for someone to speak, not a crowd. Five people who recognize themselves in what brings them together are enough for it; a full room that was expecting nothing does not come together for all that.

What sets this Rulership cross apart from the one that starts from Gate 45?

The first move. Here, the wish to welcome comes first, and the other gates extend it; in the 45 version, a rallying voice leads the way.
