“The 14th, not the 15th.” The correction drops into the middle of the story, calmly, and the conversation picks up again on the right date. A fact properly named can be checked; it asks for nothing more.
Stating the fact, not the story
Eleven gates belong to the Throat. Between two of them, the difference is quick to hear: Gate 56, Stimulation, turns an event into a story; Gate 62, Detail, keeps from it what can be named one by one, a time, a quantity, a proper name.
Through the Throat, a thought becomes a sentence and a decision becomes an action. The gate chooses the exact word there, the one that designates one thing and not the thing next to it.
In the Ajna, the center where concepts are built, stands Gate 17, Opinion. The Channel of Acceptance connects it to Gate 62; in this 17-62, an opinion built higher up comes out through the Throat with the facts that support it. Neither of these two centers drives any action: the facts are stated, nothing obliges anyone to apply them.
The Throat can also be defined without Gate 17, by 23-43 for example, which connects it to the Ajna by another route. Gate 62 then speaks from a defined Throat without forming a channel itself.
The right figure
At the start of a hike, Rémi, who is guiding the group, doesn’t announce “we turn further on”: he talks about the second bridge, then the red marker post on the left. Nobody gets lost; the group has stopped being surprised.
At the town council, Clara rereads the minutes and raises her hand: the grant that was voted was four thousand two hundred euros, not four thousand. She has no opinion about the grant; she has a fact, and she gives it.
What can be checked
A precisely named fact can be checked by anyone. Gate 62 gives others this handle, so they no longer have to take things on trust.
In a group, the right detail prevents misunderstandings. A date or an amount quoted correctly saves hours of catching up.
Joined to the opinions of Gate 17, this taste for facts backs them with their evidence, so they can be challenged on the evidence.
When the inventory hides the point
Without a channel to define it, the Throat has no way of speaking of its own and takes on the urge to speak of whoever is present. Gate 62 finds fertile ground there: at the back-to-school meeting, a pupil’s mother goes through times, prices and room numbers in detail, and the proposal she came to make gets lost in the middle of the inventory.
Detail can also hide the whole. Fixated on a comma, Gate 62 can let through the fundamental error that a broader reading would have caught.
In a Manifestor chart, with 17-62 and 35-36 for example, a motor, the Solar Plexus, reaches the Throat. Before reorganizing the schedule, a team leader in this situation sends three pages of specifics; the sentence saying what was going to change is missing, and the team discovers the decision on Monday morning.
For you, for others
For you
Choose the moment for your specifics: a decision to be made, a document to be signed. Say first what is changing, then give the details to those who want them.
For others
A coworker at the next desk who has Gate 62 corrects a figure you have just given? Check it without taking it as criticism: she is bringing you a fact, not a judgment.
Frequently asked questions about Gate 62: Detail
Does the taste for detail turn into an obsession?
Not in itself. The gate names things accurately; precision that takes over everything comes from conditioning, that of an open Throat for example, more than from the gate.
Does Gate 62 need an opinion to express itself?
No. It gives facts; the opinion comes from Gate 17, in the Ajna, when the chart contains it. At the town council, Clara had no view on the grant, only the right amount.
Does an open Throat prevent Gate 62 from expressing itself?
No. A gate belongs to the chart whether its center is defined or not. In an open Throat, the precision of Gate 62 is still there; the way of speaking, on the other hand, varies with the people around.
What does Gate 62 notice first in a story?
What can be checked, such as a date or the gap between what is said and what happened.
