The name suggests a fortune. The channel is mostly about willpower and resources: what a person wants to manage themselves, and the way they announce what they have decided to the people around them.

The Heart speaks

Gate 21, Hunter/Huntress, belongs to the Heart Center (Ego), the center of willpower and a motor. Gate 45, The Gatherer, sits in the Throat.

A motor connected directly to the Throat is enough to settle part of the Type. If the Sacral stays undefined, the Type is Manifestor. If another channel defines it, the 5-15 for example, the chart becomes a Manifesting Generator. The other three Types are ruled out for any chart containing this channel.

On its own, the 21-45 gives Ego Authority, since the Heart is then the first defined center in the order of authorities. All it takes is for a center ranked above it to be defined, and the decision passes elsewhere: with the 26-44, which defines the Spleen Center, it becomes Splenic.

The Heart has four channels, one toward each neighboring center; the 21-45 is the one that reaches the Throat.

As for circuitry, it belongs to the Tribal group, with no confirmed sub-circuit. Its name is the Channel of Money, and its subtitle is “A Design of a Materialist.”

The vacation accounts

When the six of them head off to a rented house, he opens the expense spreadsheet on his own initiative and announces how much each share comes to. Nobody appointed him. The group goes along, relieved that someone is taking care of it.

The Heart’s willpower passes straight into speech: “I’ll handle it,” “Here’s how we’ll do it.” The two possible Types share one step of their Strategy: informing. Announcing the decision before acting keeps the other five from discovering a booking made in their name.

The Manifesting Generator adds waiting for a request their Sacral responds to. When the Authority is Ego Authority, the question boils down to “Do I want this?”, and the answer comes without detours.

Holding the purse strings

Back from vacation, nobody argues about the shares: everyone saw the spreadsheet from the first evening and knows what they owe.

Gate 21 wants to manage its domain without interference. When the group hands that domain over, this demand becomes a guarantee: the handball club’s accounts are kept, the bills paid on time.

The Heart’s word carries weight. A promise made from real willpower is kept, and the people around them learn to count on it.

The Manifestor finds their Signature in it, peace, once they have informed and nobody is trying to control them anymore. The Manifesting Generator finds the satisfaction of having seen through what their Sacral had agreed to.

Controlling, overpromising

Anyone who manages everything without informing others meets resistance. When control is taken back from them, their own anger rises: that is the warning signal shared by the two possible Types with this channel.

Promising more than willpower can sustain is the other trap. A Heart committed out of pride or duty eventually gives way. The group’s trust suffers. The price asked for one’s own work raises a related question: too low, it wears you down; too high, it isolates you.

For you, for others

For you

Tell the people it affects what you’re going to do, before you do it. Commit to what you truly want, and renegotiate early whatever you can no longer keep up.

For others

Give them a domain to manage without stepping in at every stage. In return, ask to be kept informed. An “I don’t want to” from them saves you time.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Money

Is the 21-45 about money in the literal sense?

The name, Channel of Money, comes from the original English. According to the system, the Heart, where Gate 21 sits, has to do with one’s sense of self-worth and with commitments; money is one concrete arena among others.

Is informing the same as asking permission?

No. Informing gives information, whereas asking permission opens a debate that can end up holding back the action. Human Design places announcing within the Strategy of both possible Types with this channel; it doesn’t wait for agreement.

Can a Manifesting Generator with this channel announce before their Sacral has responded?

Their Strategy, waiting to respond, sets the opposite order: first a request the Sacral responds to, then any announcement. With the 9-52 added, the chart, now with a defined Sacral, becomes a Manifesting Generator; a vacation plan suggested by a friend then calls for a yes from the gut before the expense spreadsheet. The Manifestor, with an undefined Sacral, announces without waiting for a response.

Does this channel make a good boss?

It gives a willpower that wants to manage and a Throat that announces. In a group that entrusts it with a domain, that makes someone who holds the purse strings and says what they’re doing with it; without that mandate, the same willpower meets resistance.
