Nothing steadies the Rhythmic Monkey like a playful activity in its hands: tinkering, cooking without a recipe, turning tidying up into a challenge.
When your mind starts racing, you do not look for calm in an armchair. You take apart an old alarm clock, you invent a dish with three ingredients, you sort the bookshelf by color to see what it looks like. After an hour, your thoughts have sorted themselves out, as if the game had done the sorting for you.
The catch is that the Monkey has no shortage of agility. One activity leads to another, then a third, and the balance your tone finds in doing turns into perpetual restlessness. The alarm clock stays half dismantled on the table, the invented dish is never made again, and you move from one game to the next without ever feeling the moment when you settle down.
