An opinion given on the spot, without reasons, that others have learned to consult before committing. A will that setbacks set going again goes along with it. The Design adds facts noted down to the word and a curiosity about what remains unexplained.
A fixed fate, a Throat turned toward the Ajna
The meaning of this Juxtaposition is a fixed fate. On the Design side, Gate 62, Detail, has its harmonic gate in the Ajna: Gate 17, Opinion. A chart with only their channel, the Channel of Acceptance, would be that of a Projector. Its authority, mental, would let the decision emerge over the course of conversations; the alert of Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, would then only have to inform.
The first box
A used bookstore, on the corner of a pedestrian street, lives off the libraries families empty after a death.
Ysaline has been sorting them for fifteen years. When a fellow bookseller calls her before buying an estate, she goes to look at the boxes with him. Sometimes she opens the first one and tells him, in one sentence, not to commit; what he does with that advice is up to him alone.
Her catalog gives, for each book, the edition, the year, the condition of the binding and the name of the first owner when it appears on the flyleaf.
Her opinions went first to three fellow booksellers she has known since she started out. It was they who, little by little, made them known to the others.
A reference point people come to consult
A brief opinion in the moment can become a reference point for others, who learn to ask for it before committing. The 57 judges the situation in the moment; that judgment gets around.
Gate 51, Shock, at the Personality Earth, turns a setback into a reason to start again. A lease lost, damaged stock set the will moving again instead of stopping it.
The facts of the 62 give the opinions a checkable footing: an accurate catalog lets anyone verify what they are being sold.
Gate 61, Mystery, sustains a curiosity about what remains unexplained, a bookplate with no name, an annotation in a margin. It serves no practical purpose and feeds a love of the trade.
The riddle in place of the answer
A question from the 61 raised at the moment a fellow bookseller is waiting for a yes or a no muddles the opinion he came for. The riddle decides nothing, and it arrives in place of the answer.
The 51 can also seek out difficulty for its own sake: accepting the estate nobody wants, to see whether it can be pulled off, when instinct had already recoiled. The challenge wins out over the signal, and the stock fills up with what no one will buy.
For you, for others
For you
Give your opinion in the moment, without waiting to have checked everything: it holds for that moment. Checking serves the facts, not the signal.
For others
Listen to the first reaction of a friend whose chart has this cross before her explanations, which come after the fact. Offer her a challenge only if it can still be turned down without losing face.
Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition
How long does a recoil of instinct hold?
It holds for the situation that triggered it, and ends with it. Boxes set aside on a Tuesday can be looked at again another day: it will be a different situation, which instinct will judge anew.
Does an opinion from instinct commit those who receive it?
It informs them. Shared, the signal of the 57 is only a quick warning for those around; each person then decides with their own authority.
Does an alert hold for a lot you have not seen?
It concerns what is there, at the moment it is there. An opinion given over the phone, on the mere description of an estate, does not have the backing of instinct; you have to be in front of the boxes.
Does the curiosity of the 61 serve a purpose?
No immediate purpose; it does not look for one. It keeps alive questions others have put away for lack of an answer; an idea may come of it years later.
