A struggle, once engaged, holds as long as the obstacle resists. An immediate instinct says when to take a step back. A refusal, instead of knocking the person down, makes them want to start again differently.

An alertness that could have its own force

This Juxtaposition, whose fate is described as fixed, brings together on the Personality side two Root gates, the 38 and the 39, which no channel connects either to each other or to the other two. On the Design side, the 57 can join three gates, all outside the cross: Gate 10, Behavior of the Self, Gate 20, the Now, and Gate 34, Power.

With the 34, present elsewhere in the chart, it would form the Channel of Power: the strength of the Sacral would follow the alertness of the moment, and the gesture would come before the explanation.

The crosswalk and the committee

At the neighborhood middle school, parents know whom to call the day before a board meeting. Wassim has been a parent representative since his eldest started there, nine years ago.

He won the crosswalk in front of the gate after three winters of letters, each refusal followed by a new letter, more precise than the last.

When the county turned down the renovation of the schoolyard, he asked to present the file to the committee himself, in front of elected officials he did not know; the refusal had made him want to start again differently.

A cause that does not fade

A shared cause gains someone who will not let it go: the 38 holds out against refusals, and the 51 turns each one into a reason to get back to it.

The Earth in the 39 also brings the frank remark that gets things unstuck, without waiting for everything to be ready: a question asked at a board meeting, just when the subject is on the table, sometimes does more than a letter.

The 57 keeps some freedom amid the tenacity: giving up a specific move on the spot without abandoning the whole struggle.

When nobody pushes back anymore

The 51 readily turns every meeting into a test. The other parents grow tired of it and go quiet; the person loses the opposing view they would have needed.

The remark of the 39 sometimes comes out before the file has been read. At a meeting where people expect figures, it can dent credibility earned over nine years.

For you, for others

For you

From time to time, sort the struggles you have chosen from the ones you carry on out of habit. The latter can pass to others. Keep someone close who dares to contradict you.

For others

If your neighbor has this cross, contradict him openly: without pushback, his meetings turn into jousts he wins before they start. To bring him into a cause, present it as a challenge he can decline.

Frequently asked questions about the Juxtaposition Cross of Opposition

Does a struggle waged for years end up wearing the person out?

Not the 38, which finds in duration something to work on. What wears the person out is a struggle their authority did not accept at the start, or one kept up out of loyalty when it no longer brings anything.

Does instinct have a say in a fight that lasts several years?

Only in the moment. The 57 judges a specific step, on a given day; it says nothing about the whole struggle, whose outcome depends on what the authority accepted at the start.

Does a frank remark wait until everything has been read?

Not necessarily: that is the nature of the 39, which responds to the situation without a file. Otherwise, a 4/1 wants to have studied the question before giving an opinion, and shares it first with the people they know.

Does contradicting this person hurt them?

No more than anyone else. The 51 likes to measure itself, and a solid objection offers it a test it learns from; what deprives it is other people’s silence.
