Chart authorityAlways Emotional

Desire arrives before the experience, without knowing what it holds, and a pressure coming from the body pushes it forward. Its shape only becomes clear as moods come and go.

Pressure behind desire

Gate 41, Contraction, belongs to the Root, the pressure center that fuels the Sacral and the Solar Plexus. Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, sits in the Solar Plexus and brings desire, the urge to live an experience before knowing what it contains.

The Solar Plexus comes first in the order of authorities, which gives any chart containing this channel Emotional Authority; its wave rises and falls at its own pace. Both centers are motors, but neither touches the Throat through this channel: on its own, it gives a Projector. The 35-36, which connects the Solar Plexus to the Throat, makes it a Manifestor; the 42-53, which defines the Sacral without touching the Throat, a Generator. The sources place the 30-41 in the Collective group, Abstract sub-circuit, with the 35-36, the 42-53 and the 47-64.

Desiring before knowing

Since his teens, a man has dreamed of sailing across the Atlantic. He has never taken the helm. The dream doesn’t wear out; it changes color: thrilling at times, absurd at others, then obvious again.

The evening a friend offers him a berth on a delivery voyage to the Caribbean, the idea seems irresistible; the next morning, it seems crazy. Neither reading is enough to decide, since each was made at a different point on the wave.

Emotional Authority asks him to wait until the answer stops shifting. He promises an answer by Monday; by then, the desire has held in the low as well as at the peak: he accepts. If his chart is a Projector’s, the friend’s offer carries extra weight: it is the invitation his Strategy asks him to wait for before a commitment of this size.

A desire allowed to ripen

Lived according to the wave, desire goes through a sorting process. The dream of the crossing survived every low, then found its shape the day a place on board came up; other urges, just as vivid in the moment, didn’t last the night.

Once the decision is made, the Root provides the drive to see it through. The trip gets prepared; the date eventually arrives.

The drive that outruns clarity

Desiring before knowing exposes a person to disappointment. The imagined experience doesn’t resemble the one that arrives, and the person may resent it for being different.

Deciding at the crest of the wave is the other pitfall. A ticket bought on an evening of enthusiasm, a resignation sent on impulse: the low that follows shows what the decision ignored.

The Root adds its urgency. Under its pressure, the urge to act right away can pass itself off as a mature decision.

At the opposite extreme, desire can turn into permanent daydreaming, always for later. The wave comes and goes, and nothing gets decided for lack of an opportunity from outside, or for lack of saying yes to the one that came along.

A project launched without an invitation leaves the Projector with bitterness, even when the desire was sincere. A Manifestor who leaves without informing anyone faces resistance from those who stay behind.

For you, for others

For you

Your desires, even the ones that seem crazy, can wait without being settled; none of them gets decided at the crest of your wave. The one that comes back intact after several moods deserves a yes the day the opportunity arises.

For others

A fiery announcement of a plan from this person is not yet a decision. Wait until their wave has passed before asking for a firm answer.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Recognition

Can a desire be lived without an opportunity from outside?

That depends on the chart’s Type. A Projector waits for an invitation before a weighty commitment; a Manifestor, with the 35-36 for example, informs before setting off; a Generator, with the 42-53, responds to what comes along. In every case, Emotional Authority asks you to let the wave pass.

What is the Root doing in a channel of desire?

It provides the push. This channel plugs the Root’s pressure directly into the Solar Plexus, and the desire of Gate 30 gains a physical force from it, close to urgency.

Must every desire be lived out?

No. The system describes a desire that comes before the experience and entrusts the sorting to Emotional Authority: the one that stays the same from the crest to the low of the wave can receive a yes; the others can remain wishes.

Is this desire about objects or experiences?

Experiences: Gate 30 brings the urge to live something whose content you don’t yet know. A house by the water then matters less for itself than for the life you imagine living there.
