The body committed, the Self holding on
The G Center gathers several kinds of love, and the page on that center assigns love of the body to Gate 46. The body therefore has a place in this gate: it is through the body that the gate enters an experience; it is the body, afterward, that keeps it there.
The same center carries the Self, and several of its gates name one facet of it: Gate 2 its direction, Gate 7 its role, Gate 46 its determination. This determination consists in holding to a path once the body is committed, long enough for it to yield what it contains, without first demanding to know where it leads.
Staying once committed
A summer job filling in for a market gardener brought Louise to the village. She had no plans to stay; four seasons later, she knows every plot and no longer asks herself the question. Nothing made up her mind all at once: each morning in the fields confirmed the one before.
Baptiste took up swimming again after a knee injury, on a physical therapist’s advice. He turned it into neither a challenge nor a program. He goes back to the pool because his body feels good there. It was while swimming that he realized he wanted to change careers.
Neither of them had a plan. The direction appeared afterward, once the body had settled into what it was doing.
A path held by the body
An experience that needs time to yield what it contains finds, with Gate 46, someone who stays. This constancy does not rely on arguments: where others would leave at the first doubt, the person is still there.
With Gate 29, it rests on a yes from the Sacral: the experience then holds until it has yielded its discovery.
Holding someone else’s path
An open G Center takes its direction from others. Gate 46 can then hold steadily to a path chosen by others: an inherited profession, a city where a spouse wanted to live.
The same open center pushes a person to cling to whatever provides an identity. A job or a relationship serves as a fixed point, and the determination is used to stay there long after it has stopped doing any good.
A volunteer with this gate can hold, for years and with the same tenacity, the role of coordinator that nobody gave her. If she is a Projector, she waits for a recognition that does not come without an invitation; bitterness arrives in its place.
On a euphoric evening, someone signs up for a bike tour of Europe; Gate 46 will hold that path for months. With a defined Solar Plexus, this commitment may have been made at the high tide of a mood, when the next ebb would have refused it.

No. Willpower belongs to the Heart. Gate 46 belongs to the G Center, the center of direction: it holds a path without forcing it.
Does Gate 46 need a yes to commit?
If the chart also contains Gate 29, Saying Yes, which responds from the Sacral, the commitment starts from a gut yes: the two gates then make up the Channel of Discovery, 29-46, where Gate 46 sustains what Gate 29 set in motion.
