Chart authorityAlways Emotional

Giving up a whole Saturday to help a friend, then disappearing on Sunday: the effort made for one’s own people and the need to withdraw go together. Promises, for their part, take on the color of the mood of the moment.

Willpower in the service of friendship

Gate 37, Friendship, belongs to the Solar Plexus, which carries the emotions and has to do with bonds, with the wish to be close as well as the discomfort of conflict. Gate 40, Aloneness, sits in the Heart Center (Ego), the center of willpower: Human Design sees in it a real effort made for loved ones, followed by the need to withdraw and recover.

The Heart and the Solar Plexus are both motors, and the channel connects them to each other without touching the Throat: the chart needs another channel to be anything other than a Projector’s. Since the Solar Plexus takes priority in the calculation of Authority, every chart containing this channel decides at the pace of the wave. The defined Heart never has the last word there.

The Type, however, is left open. With the 21-45, the Heart reaches the Throat: Manifestor. With the 6-59, the Sacral is defined without a link to the Throat: Generator. Only the Reflector is ruled out.

Human Design places the 37-40 in the Tribal group, like the 19-49 and the 6-59.

Other people’s Saturday, his own Sunday

A neighbor spends his Saturday repainting a friend’s kitchen, without counting the hours. On Sunday, he doesn’t answer the phone. The friend worries she has taken advantage; he is recovering, alone, what he gave the day before.

The Solar Plexus wave colors these commitments. At the peak, he happily promises his help for next month’s move. In the low, the same promise feels heavy. The Heart, which holds to its word, will keep it anyway. Waiting for the mood to turn before promising spares him those Saturdays without any desire.

For a Projector, the Strategy asks him to wait for an invitation. Applied to friendship, it separates the help people come to ask him for from the help he offers before anyone has said a word, which risks missing the mark.

A yes you can count on

The defined Heart supplies steady willpower. When someone with this channel defined says yes, at the end of their wave, those around them can count on it, and their clear refusal prevents disappointment.

Help, when it comes from a yes that has ripened, is given in full. The neighbor who agreed to repaint the kitchen doesn’t look at the clock; he already knows that Sunday will be his.

His warmth can’t be forced. It follows the wave, and on the evening it’s there, it matters to those who receive it.

Giving beyond willpower

The first pitfall lies in excess. Giving beyond what willpower allows, one more Saturday, then another, wears out the Heart and leaves a growing resentment. In a Projector’s chart, this aftertaste goes by the name of bitterness, the Type’s warning signal.

The second lies in withdrawal. The need for solitude after effort easily passes for selfishness, in other people’s eyes as well as one’s own. Denying oneself that time out of guilt ends up exhausting; the next round of help is then given grudgingly.

For you, for others

For you

Between a request for a favor and your answer, let your mood change at least once. After the effort, plan some time for yourself, without apologizing to anyone.

For others

After a friend with this channel has given you a hand, give them time to slip away: their withdrawal isn’t aimed at you. If you need their help, ask for it rather than waiting for them to offer; in a Projector’s chart, help that has been asked for lands right.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Community

Does the Heart defined by this channel give Ego Authority?

No. The Solar Plexus, defined at the same time, comes before the Heart when the calculation looks for Authority. Ego Authority requires a defined Heart with the Solar Plexus, the Sacral and the Spleen Center all undefined.

Does a refusal damage the friendship?

A no given once the wave has settled leaves fewer marks than a yes kept grudgingly. The defined Heart keeps its promises; it’s better, then, for it to promise only what has passed through several moods.

Where are Gates 37 and 40?

Gate 37, Friendship, belongs to the Solar Plexus; Gate 40, Aloneness, to the Heart. Each has only one possible partner, the other gate of the channel.

Is the need for solitude a rejection of others?

The system describes it as the time to recover after an effort made for one’s own people. Withdrawal is part of how the channel works, just like the help that comes before it.
