An explanation that looks too good immediately triggers the question: does it hold up? Doubt opens the way, and the formula only comes afterward, once it has stood up to scrutiny.

A question before the form

Gate 63, Doubt, belongs to the Head, which produces questions and the pressure to answer them. Gate 4, Formulization, is in the Ajna, where those questions take the form of a thought.

Neither the Head nor the Ajna is a motor; both come last in the order of authorities. As long as the chart stays within these centers, you have a Projector with Mental Authority: the 23-43, which extends the Ajna to the Throat, changes nothing. Authority only shifts if a channel reaches a center other than these three. With the 7-31, which defines the G Center, it becomes Self-Projected; with the 6-59, the chart becomes a Generator with Emotional Authority.

The circuit classification places it in the Collective, Logic sub-circuit, alongside six other channels: 5-15, 7-31, 9-52, 16-48, 17-62 and 18-58.

Checking before applauding

An analyst receives a sales spreadsheet where everything is going up. She doesn’t congratulate anyone. First she looks for the month when the calculation method changed. Once the curve is redone, the increase is half as large. Her team holds it against her a little. The next time, she’s the one they send the spreadsheet to before presenting it.

The doubt of Gate 63 targets what seemed settled: a habit, a line of reasoning, a claim made at the dinner table without proof. It demands that things be checked. In a Projector’s chart, this doubt does better waiting for an invitation; offered when nobody asked for it, it comes across as mistrust.

A formula others can reuse

A line of reasoning that has gone through this channel has been tested: the questions have been asked, the counterexamples sought out.

Gate 4 is called Formulization: at the end, the reasoning has a form others can pick up. The analyst’s spreadsheet, once corrected, goes out with a three-line note; a colleague who was away that day redoes the calculation and arrives at the same figure.

In a group, this rigor prevents costly mistakes. A project reviewed by someone with the channel defined arrives at the meeting with its weak points already named.

Invited to give their opinion, a Projector with this channel finds success, the Signature of this Type: people adopt their method and come back to consult them.

When doubt goes in circles

The Head exerts a pressure that demands an answer. With this channel, a question can come back in the evening, on waking, in the shower, with nothing to settle it.

Doubt also turns inward. Lacking proof about their own choices, the person stops deciding, or asks the Ajna for a certainty it isn’t built to provide when it comes to their own life.

Offering corrections everywhere, uninvited, draws irritation more than recognition. Bitterness, the Projector’s warning signal, follows.

For you, for others

For you

Save your doubt for ideas and figures. For your own choices, if your Authority is Mental, doubt will never find enough proof: talk them over with several people, in different settings, and only hand things back to reasoning at the end, to sort out what those conversations brought to light.

For others

An objection from this person is aimed at the reasoning you’re putting forward, not at you. Ask for their opinion when you want a solid project. Then give them time to check.

Frequently asked questions about the Channel of Logic

Does the 4-63 leave room for an inner Authority?

On its own, no: it gives Mental Authority, which rests on no center able to decide from within. As soon as another channel defines a center outside the trio of Head, Ajna and Throat, Authority passes to that center.

Do you doubt everything with this channel?

Gate 63 doubts what seemed settled, to see whether it holds up. This doubt serves ideas and models. Turned toward personal decisions, it blocks, and the chart’s Authority takes over.

Is a defined Head enough to have this channel?

Both gates are needed, 4 and 63. The Head can be defined by the 24-61 or the 47-64 without the 4-63 being defined. Gate 63 has only one partner, Gate 4; the reverse is also true.

Does a channel called Logic make you reasonable?

The word refers to a way of thinking that moves forward by verification. It doesn’t make the person any more cautious in their life: how they decide depends on the chart’s Authority.
